For more than a decade, Evolution Fitness was a place where people found strength and solitude. It was born as an idea brought to fruition back in 2009, a project which was not expected to gain the momentum it eventually achieved. Jeff and I never imagined our passion could grow large enough to support 3 communities; Lowell, Cedar Lake and Winfield.
Throughout the years, we have always remained true to our members and held honesty as our top priority. We have taken pride in offering affordable memberships, which members enjoyed, at any of our 3 locations, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Evolution Fitness set itself apart from other franchise or big box gyms by having the ability to afford smaller, more intimate, less crowded clubs, thus allowing members the freedom to escape the typically crowded atmosphere. We enjoyed the fact our members were able to fully utilize equipment in a more personable friendly atmosphere, without the hassle of waiting to use equipment.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed our world as we all know it. We all are being forced to adapt to a new “normal”, a normal which is driving many businesses into the red and forcing them to close forever.
Sadly this new “normal” is not forgiving, nor easily adapted to Evolution Fitness operating standards. Our members are familiar with our non-staffed operations and “self-sufficient” locations, as we are locally owned and operated. Moving forward, COVID-19 guidelines are forcing changes we cannot support. Our operating scheme would require changes which would alter the core of our business model. Many of the new guidelines would also prove costly and eventually drive us out of business. Our profits have already been drained due to government mandated closure since March 23rd. Unlike some other local gyms, Evolution Fitness immediately stopped automatic membership payments and has not collected dues for months. It simply would have been unfair to charge members for services we were forced to take away from them.
With this all said, all good things must come to an end. It is with heavy hearts that Jeff and I have decided to permanently close Evolution Fitness. Refund checks have been issued to those few members who had paid future dues. Watch for checks to arrive via USPS if you have not received it already.
